Bread & Puppet is coming to San Diego!!! SAVE the DATE Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2pm
We are THRILLED to welcome the iconic political theater company Bread and Puppet for an outdoor performance in North Park on Sunday Nov 6th at 2 p.m.! We have been fans for decades and have visited and performed at their amazing farm/theater in Vermont! And now in 2 and a half weeks, be right here in San Diego If you’re in the area, DON’T MISS this rare opportunity! The Apocalypse Defiance Circus is a bright, raucous melee of short acts governed by a brass band, addressing the heart of the current moment with diverse puppetry styles and spanning many moods, from slapstick to the sublime. Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann in New York City, Bread and Puppet is one of the oldest nonprofit, self-supporting theatrical companies in the country. It champions a visually rich, street-theater brand of performance filled with music, dance, puppets, masks and spectacle. We have collaborated with local non-profit art organizations Fern Street Circus and the San Diego Guild of Puppetry to make it a free to the public performance but if you would like to contribute you may donate to Bread & Puppet after the show and you can also send money to us, Fern Street Circus or San Diego Guild of Puppetry to help us continue to support & create programming like this. We are also grateful to San Diego Parks & Rec, The City of San Diego, The National Endowment for the ARTS, The California Arts Council, The San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture and the Conrad Prebys Foundation, and to all of YOU for helping us spread the word! Bread and Puppet Theater is an internationally celebrated company that champions a visually rich, street-theater brand of performance art filled with music, dance and slapstick. Believing that theater is a basic necessity like bread, the company frequently brings its work to the streets for those who may not otherwise go to the theater. Its shows are political and spectacular, with puppets often on stilts, wearing huge masks with expressive faces, singing, dancing and playing music. After the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale. They will also pass the hat so if you feel like you want to support Bring some money!
